Basant Kedia is a Deputy Regional Managing Director with First Republic Bank. He runs a bi-coastal team between the Bay Area and New York, leading one of the largest practices at the bank. Basant specializes in managing high-net-worth families and finding creative lending and risk management solutions for their complex financial lives. With over 15 years of experience in private banking, Basant also advises startups in fundraising and business development, working intimately with companies that range from early stage to unicorns. He has invested in multiple startups and micro-VC funds.
Basant began his career in banking with HDFC Bank in Mumbai. He later joined HSBC in New York as Vice President after finishing his MBA. In 2008, Basant moved to the Bay Area to start the South Asian Banking Group at HSBC and to immerse in the startup sector. In 2011, he joined First Republic Bank, where he was instrumental in establishing the Bank’s startup practice and ecosystem.
Outside of banking, Basant is the head of the Blockchain SIG at Band of Angels, where he mentors Blockchain companies and educates members about Blockchain technology. He also runs a foundation focused on education in India and the U.S.
Basant received both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in commerce at the University of Mumbai. He got his MBA from Baruch College and also studied venture capital and private equity at Harvard Business School under their executive education program.
