At First Republic, exceptional client service always begins with the team.

That’s why we’re proud to honor the many women who helped First Republic become one of the most successful — and gender-diverse — companies in the United States as we celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day 2021.

Since First Republic was founded in 1985, women have played a strategic and critical role in its success. First Republic Board Vice Chair Katherine August-deWilde, the Bank’s former President, worked with Founder, Chairman and CEO Jim Herbert to build one of the most gender-diverse U.S. companies.

“A diversity of backgrounds, opinions and perspectives has always been fundamental to our success,” Jim said.

Gender Diversity Across the Organization

That commitment is reflected in the composition of First Republic’s board, senior management team and workforce.

Today, 40% of First Republic’s board is composed of women, ranking it No. 1 in gender diversity among the top California financial institutions, according to the “2019 Bank Board Diversity” report by The Greenlining Institute.

Women comprise 48% of the senior management team and 47% of the Bank’s total workforce. First Republic’s President is Hafize Gaye Erkan, and her colleagues include women in executive leadership roles in human resources, wealth management, trust, risk, marketing and corporate administration.

A 2018 story in the San Francisco Business Times chronicled the culture of success at First Republic and its gender diversity. “When you have an organization with such a strong representation of women at the senior levels, all the younger women can see a clear path for success at the Bank,” Susie Cranston, Executive Vice President of First Republic Private Wealth Management, told the Business Times.

First Republic’s commitment to gender diversity is part of its broader commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). “At First Republic, we are committed to supporting and advancing racial inclusion and equality,” Gaye said. In 2020, First Republic further expanded its commitment to DEI initiatives.

Our Continued Efforts

On behalf of everyone at First Republic, thank you to everyone who is actively committed to DEI efforts, allyship and anti-racism.

At First Republic, we believe diversity at all levels of the organization is not just a competitive advantage — it’s the right thing to do. It’s also essential to helping us fulfill our primary mission: delivering exceptional, personalized client service.
