Since the early 1900’s, International Women’s Day has been observed throughout the world, inspiring women and celebrating their achievements. This year’s theme is ‘Inspiring Change’, and it encourages advocacy for women’s advancement everywhere, in every way. In honor of this, First Republic Bank would like to share the perspectives of some of our exceptional women clients.

Robyn Coles has been a client of First Republic since 2010. Her diverse professional life, including starting her own company at a young age, has been balanced by her role as a mother. She is now Managing Partner of TRATE Capital Investments - investing in securities, real estate and venture-stage companies.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I have come full-circle in my professional life. I have been a serial entrepreneur, starting my first company at the age of 23.  I then took several years off to raise my three sons, and now I am returning to business, investing and managing a portfolio of assets. Interestingly, the passion never left.  I have kept my mind engaged in the business issues of the day, and I now feel poised and ready to start my next chapter.  Although I chose to build my career in stages and take time away from business, I have been able to have it all.

If you could turn the clock back to when you were starting your career, what advice would you give yourself?

Set a vision for yourself and try not to worry about the timeline.

Who has been a role model to you in your life/career and why?

My mother. Though limited in her education and circumstances, she was unlimited in her ability to create change around her.  A fierce advocate for her community, she had an ability to create positive energy in situations that were otherwise filled with powerlessness.

This year's theme for International Women's Day is 'Inspiring Change'. If you could impact change, how would women's lives look 50 years from now?

Helping women to find value in what they do - whether in the board room or in their homes, and feeling ok with either.  Life does not have to be linear.  We can have second, and third acts.

What would you like your legacy to be?

I would like to start a foundation helping others recognize and achieve their possibilities.
