Q2 2020 Preqin Report: Dry Powder Data Provides Hope

Each quarter Preqin, a leading source of fund performance data, publishes an in-depth review of the U.S. private equity and venture capital industry with coverage of fundraising, funds in market, investors, deals, performance and dry powder.

The report found that the impact of COVID-19 on private equity fundraising was relatively muted in Q1 2020, but activity slowed significantly in Q2 as the full effect of regional lockdowns took hold. Private equity-backed buyout deals tumbled to their lowest quarterly level in seven years, but venture capital deal flow showed signs of recovery.

For this quarter’s report, Preqin interviewed Samir Kaji, Senior Managing Director at First Republic Bank, for his views of the changing approach to investing in a post-COVID-19 world, and how the pandemic may accelerate investment in certain sectors.
