Visa Checkout FAQs
Visa Checkout FAQ
What is Visa Checkout?
Visa Checkout is the new instant-buy service provided by Visa. The service aims to speed up online payments on both desktop and mobile devices. Similar to other instant-buy services (such as PayPal), Visa Checkout offers clients the convenience of making online purchases without the need to enter credit or debit card information for each purchase.
How does Visa Checkout work?
The process for using Visa Checkout is similar to that of other digital wallet services. After setting up an account, the client can register any debit or credit card to use for instant purchases. (If a client has a previous V.me Visa account, that account will work with Visa Checkout.) When visiting a website that supports Visa Checkout, clients can simply tap or click the Visa Checkout option in order to pay for products instantly with any card(s) they have saved with Visa Checkout.
Do I need a Visa card to use Visa Checkout?
No. Visa Checkout works with any major credit or debit card.
What devices does Visa Checkout work on?
Visa Checkout works on just about any device with Internet access, so you can use it on your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer. (Note that Visa Checkout is not limited to mobile devices.)
How secure is Visa Checkout?
Visa uses industry-standard encryption and multilayer authentication to protect your data, which provides a high level of security similar to that of other instant-buy and digital wallet services.
What stores support Visa Checkout?
As a new service, Visa Checkout’s store selection is still limited, but there are quite a few large retailers that do already support the service, including: Neiman Marcus, Petco, Under Armour, HSN, Land’s End, Banana Republic, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Staples, Walgreens, United Airlines, Marriott, StubHub, Fandango, TicketMaster, Starbucks and Shutterfly, among others. According to Visa, more retailers will begin supporting Visa Checkout every month.
How is Visa Checkout different from PayPal?
Visa Checkout and PayPal function very similarly, though Visa Checkout is only used for making purchases, while PayPal also allows other transactions, including transfers between accounts and payments to individuals.
Although Visa Checkout is not currently supported by as many stores as PayPal is, there is an additional convenience to using Visa Checkout. Selecting the PayPal option on most online stores redirects clients to a separate login page:
However, selecting the Visa Checkout option simply brings up a pop-up window that allows clients to stay on the merchant’s checkout page:
